Our journey into the epic of Gilgamesh begins here:

The Hero of the Epic

The central figure of our poem is a youthful ruler named Gilgamesh, originally a historical personage whom the Sumerlan king list assigns to the Pirat Dynasty of Uruk, allowing him a reign of one hundred and twenty-six years, and with whose illustrious name scores of myths and legends of quite distinct origin

^Haupt called our poem the "Babylonian Nimrod epic" because
in former days Gilgamesh was identified with Nimrod (Gen, 10:8-10)

although that has been debated.

Never the less it would seem some version of this man did exist.

Also it is note worthy that a great deal of our world leaders as well as government powers are a little more then obsessed with this mythical, or not so mythical personage. Ahhhhhh, but thats another paper altogether ......have patience my panurgic league of nerdem, we shall explore this topic as well.... in due time!

Now back to the task at hand.

Tablet I
He who has seen everything, I will make known (?) to the lands. I will teach (?) about him who experienced all things,
... alike,
Anu granted him the totality of knowledge of all.

He saw the Secret, discovered the Hidden,
he brought information of (the time) before the Flood.
He went on a distant journey, pushing himself to exhaustion,
but then was brought to peace.
He carved on a stone stela all of his toils,
and built the wall of Uruk-Haven,
the wall of the sacred Eanna Temple, the holy sanctuary.
Look at its wall which gleams like copper(?),
inspect its inner wall, the likes of which no one can equal!
Take hold of the threshold stone--it dates from ancient times!
Go close to the Eanna Temple, the residence of Ishtar,
such as no later king or man ever equaled!
Go up on the wall of Uruk and walk around,
examine its foundation, inspect its brickwork thoroughly.
Is not (even the core of) the brick structure made of kiln-fired brick,
and did not the Seven Sages themselves lay out its plans?
One league city, one league palm gardens, one league lowlands, the open area(?) of the Ishtar Temple,
three leagues and the open area(?) of Uruk it (the wall) encloses.
Find the copper tablet box,
open the ... of its lock of bronze,
undo the fastening of its secret opening.
Take and read out from the lapis lazuli tablet
how Gilgamesh went through every hardship.

Supreme over other kings, lordly in appearance, he is the hero, born of Uruk, the goring wild bull. He walks out in front, the leader,
and walks at the rear, trusted by his companions. Mighty net, protector of his people,

raging flood-wave who destroys even walls of stone!
Offspring of Lugalbanda, Gilgamesh is strong to perfection,
son of the august cow, Rimat-Ninsun;... Gilgamesh is awesome to perfection. It was he who opened the mountain passes,
who dug wells on the flank of the mountain.

It was he who crossed the ocean, the vast seas, to the rising sun,
who explored the world regions, seeking life.
It was he who reached by his own sheer strength Utanapishtim, the Faraway, who restored the sanctuaries (or: cities) that the Flood had destroyed!
... for teeming mankind.
Who can compare with him in kingliness?
Who can say like Gilgamesh: "I am King!"?
Whose name, from the day of his birth, was called "Gilgamesh"?
Two-thirds of him is god, one-third of him is human.
The Great Goddess [Aruru] designed(?) the model for his body,
she prepared his form ...
... beautiful, handsomest of men,
... perfect
...
He walks around in the enclosure of Uruk,
Like a wild bull he makes himself mighty, head raised (over others).
There is no rival who can raise his weapon against him.
His fellows stand (at the alert), attentive to his (orders ?),
and the men of Uruk become anxious in ...
Gilgamesh does not leave a son to his father,
day and night he arrogant[y(?) ...
[The following lines are interpreted as rhetorical, perhaps spoken by the oppressed citizens of Uruk.]

According to the epic, Old Gil was a bit of a nefarious, slave driving, super human, ego maniac'n horn dog.
So much so, he caused the people of the area and maybe the known world to cry out to the gods for relief from his heavy hand.

[The following lines are interpreted as rhetorical, perhaps spoken by the oppressed citizens of Uruk.]
Is Gilgamesh the shepherd of Uruk-Haven,
is he the shepherd. ...
bold, eminent, knowing, and wise!
Gilgamesh does not leave a girl to her mother(?)
The daughter of the warrior, the bride of the young man, the gods kept hearing their complaints, so

the gods of the heavens implored the Lord of Uruk [Anu]
"You have indeed brought into being a mighty wild bull, head raised! "There is no rival who can raise a weapon against him.
"His fellows stand (at the alert), attentive to his (orders !), "Gilgamesh does not leave a son to his father,
"day and night he arrogantly ...
"Is he the shepherd of Uruk-Haven,
"is he their shepherd...
"bold, eminent, knowing, and wise,
"Gilgamesh does not leave a girl to her mother(?)!"

The daughter of the warrior, the bride of the young man, Anu listened to their complaints,
and (the gods) called out to Aruru:

"it was you, Aruru, who created mankind(?),

now create a zikru to it/him.
Let him be equal to his (Gilgamesh's) stormy heart,
let them be a match for each other so that Uruk may find peace!"

It was written that the gods heard the cries of humanity and in turn created a being named Enkidu to occupy Mr.Gilgamesh's time, and to distract him from abusing the people.  And this is where, for me at lest it gets interesting. When the epic goes into a description of said Enkidu, it sounds a little bit familiar, lets take a looksy.

When Aruru heard this she created within herself the zikrtt of Anu. Aruru washed her hands, she pinched off some clay, and threw it into the wilderness.
In the wildness(?) she created valiant Enkidu,
born of Silence, endowed with strength by Ninurta.
His whole body was shaggy with hair,
he had a full head of hair like a woman,
his locks billowed in profusion like Ashnan.
He knew neither people nor settled living,
but wore a garment like Sumukan."
He ate grasses with the gazelles,
and jostled at the watering hole with the animals;
as with animals, his thirst was slaked with (mere) water.

A notorious trapper came face-to-face with him opposite the watering hole. A first, a second, and a third day
he came face-to-face with him opposite the watering hole.
On seeing him the trapper's face went stark with fear,

and he (Enkidu?) and his animals drew back home. He was rigid with fear; though stock-still
his heart pounded and his face drained of color.
He was miserable to the core,

and his face looked like one who had made a long journey. The trapper addressed his father saying:"
"Father, a certain fellow has come from the mountains. He is the mightiest in the land,
his strength is as mighty as the meteorite(?) of Anu! He continually goes over the mountains,

he continually jostles at the watering place with the animals, he continually plants his feet opposite the watering place.
I was afraid, so I did not go up to him.
He filled in the pits that I had dug,

wrenched out my traps that I had spread,
released from my grasp the wild animals.
He does not let me make my rounds in the wilderness!"

The trapper's father spoke to him saying:
"My son, there lives in Uruk a certain Gilgamesh. There is no one stronger than he,
he is as strong as the meteorite(?) of Anu.
Go, set off to Uruk,
tell Gilgamesh of this.

Well keep reading you key board jockeys of arthurian nobility!

Let us visit the Babylonian account recorded for us from the lost and found book, known only as the book of Jasher ( pronounced Yasher)  referenced in the Tanakh as well as the Bible (2samual 1:18, Joshua 10:13, 2Timothy 3:8)

Yasher:  a semetic word meaning "the true account", "correct record", or "the book of the upright" the "Sefer HA'Yashar" .   It is most definitely not the name of a prophet who was thought to be its author, which was erroneously assumed by the church/cult nation of Rome who later produced a pathetic forgery in medieval tongue sympathetic towards their endeavors.  Give it a read right harrr, you little scholarly devils you.  Mmmmmmmmm !Kisses!

    Any hoo,

Book of Jasher, Chapter 9

1 And Haran, the son of Terah, Abram's oldest brother, took a wife in those days.

2 Haran was thirty-nine years old when he took her; and the wife of Haran conceived and bare a son, and he called his name Lot.

3 And she conceived again and bare a daughter, and she called her name Milca; and she again conceived and bare a daughter, and she called her name Sarai.

4 Haran was forty-two years old when he begat Sarai, which was in the tenth year of the life of Abram; and in those days Abram and his mother and nurse went out from the cave, as the king and his subjects had forgotten the affair of Abram.

5 And when Abram came out from the cave, he went to Noah and his son Shem, and he remained with them to learn the instruction of the Lord and his ways, and no man knew where Abram was, and Abram served Noah and Shem his son for a long time.

6 And Abram was in Noah's house thirty-nine years, and Abram knew the Lord from three years old, and he went in the ways of the Lord until the day of his death, as Noah and his son Shem had taught him; and all the sons of the earth in those days greatly transgressed against the Lord, and they rebelled against him and they served other gods, and they forgot the Lord who had created them in the earth; and the inhabitants of the earth made unto themselves, at that time, every man his god; gods of wood and stone which could neither speak, hear, nor deliver, and the sons of men served them and they became their gods.

7 And the king and all his servants, and Terah with all his household were then the first of those that served gods of wood and stone.

20

8 And Terah had twelve gods of large size, made of wood and stone, after the twelve months of the year, and he served each one monthly, and every month Terah would bring his meat offering and drink offering to his gods; thus did Terah all the days.

9 And all that generation were wicked in the sight of the Lord, and they thus made every man his god, but they forsook the Lord who had created them.

10 And there was not a man found in those days in the whole earth, who knew the Lord (for they served each man his own God) except Noah and his household, and all those who were under his counsel knew the Lord in those days.

11 And Abram the son of Terah was waxing great in those days in the house of Noah, and no man knew it, and the Lord was with him.

12 And the Lord gave Abram an understanding heart, and he knew all the works of that generation were vain, and that all their gods were vain and were of no avail.

13 And Abram saw the sun shining upon the earth, and Abram said unto himself Surely now this sun that shines upon the earth is God, and him will I serve.

14 And Abram served the sun in that day and he prayed to him, and when evening came the sun set as usual, and Abram said within himself, Surely this cannot be God?

15 And Abram still continued to speak within himself, Who is he who made the heavens and the earth? who created upon earth? where is he?

16 And night darkened over him, and he lifted up his eyes toward the west, north, south, and east, and he saw that the sun had vanished from the earth, and the day became dark.

17 And Abram saw the stars and moon before him, and he said, Surely this is the God who created the whole earth as well as man, and behold these his servants are gods around him: and Abram served the moon and prayed to it all that night.

18 And in the morning when it was light and the sun shone upon the earth as usual, Abram saw all the things that the Lord God had made upon earth.

19 And Abram said unto himself Surely these are not gods that made the earth and all mankind, but these are the servants of God, and Abram remained in the house of Noah and there knew the Lord and his ways' and he served the Lord all the days of his life, and all that generation forgot the Lord, and served other gods of wood and stone, and rebelled all their days.

20 And king Nimrod reigned securely, and all the earth was under his control, and all the earth was of one tongue and words of union.

21 And all the princes of Nimrod and his great men took counsel together; Phut, Mitzraim, Cush and Canaan with their families, and they said to each other, Come let us build ourselves a city and in it a strong tower, and its top reaching heaven, and we will make ourselves famed, so that we may reign upon the whole world, in order that the evil of our enemies may cease from us, that we may reign mightily over them, and that we may not become scattered over the earth on account of their wars.

22 And they all went before the king, and they told the king these words, and the king agreed with them in this affair, and he did so.

23 And all the families assembled consisting of about six hundred thousand men, and they went to seek an extensive piece of ground to build the city and the tower, and they sought in the whole earth and they found none like one valley at the east of the land of Shinar, about two days' walk, and they journeyed there and they dwelt there.

24 And they began to make bricks and burn fires to build the city and the tower that they had imagined to complete.

25 And the building of the tower was unto them a transgression and a sin, and they began to build it, and whilst they were building against the Lord God of heaven, they imagined in their hearts to war against him and to ascend into heaven.

26 And all these people and all the families divided themselves in three parts; the first said We will ascend into heaven and fight against him; the second said, We will ascend to heaven and place our own gods there and serve them; and the third part said, We will ascend to heaven and smite him with bows and spears; and God knew all their works and all their evil thoughts, and he saw the city and the tower which they were building.

27 And when they were building they built themselves a great city and a very high and strong tower; and on account of its height the mortar and bricks did not reach the builders in their ascent to it, until those who went up had completed a full year, and after that, they reached to the builders and gave them the mortar and the bricks; thus was it done daily.

28 And behold these ascended and others descended the whole day; and if a brick should fall from their hands and get broken, they would all weep over it, and if a man fell and died, none of them would look at him.

29 And the Lord knew their thoughts, and it came to pass when they were building they cast the arrows toward the heavens, and all the arrows fell upon them filled with blood, and when they saw them they said to each other, Surely we have slain all those that are in heaven.

30 For this was from the Lord in order to cause them to err, and in order; to destroy them from off the face of the ground.

31 And they built the tower and the city, and they did this thing daily until many days and years were elapsed.

32 And God said to the seventy angels who stood foremost before him, to those who were near to him, saying, Come let us descend and confuse their tongues, that one man shall not understand the language of his neighbor, and they did so unto them.

33 And from that day following, they forgot each man his neighbor's tongue, and they could not understand to speak in one tongue, and when the builder took from the hands of his neighbor lime or stone which he did not order, the builder would cast it away and throw it upon his neighbor, that he would die.

34 And they did so many days, and they killed many of them in this manner.

35 And the Lord smote the three divisions that were there, and he punished them according to their works and designs; those who said, We will ascend to heaven and serve our gods, became like apes and elephants; and those who said, We will smite the heaven with arrows, the Lord killed them, one man through the hand of his neighbor; and the third division of those who said, We will ascend to heaven and fight against him, the Lord scattered them throughout the earth.

36 And those who were left amongst them, when they knew and understood the evil which was coming upon them, they forsook the building, and they also became scattered upon the face of the whole earth.

37 And they ceased building the city and the tower; therefore he called that place Babel, for there the Lord confounded the Language of the whole earth; behold it was at the east of the land of Shinar.

38 And as to the tower which the sons of men built, the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up one third part thereof, and a fire also descended from heaven and burned another third, and the other third is left to this day, and it is of that part which was aloft, and its circumference is three days' walk.

39 And many of the sons of men died in that tower, a people without number.

Heres the King James Biblical account of the tower of Babel

Which by the way it has been surmised (heavy on the surmise) that this tower seemed to be a type of machine according to the (supposed) hidden Hebrew meaning of the text which as a machine had the ability to open a gate by dividing the waters of the heavens, Not unlike what our scientists are admittedly attempting to do at CERN the large hadron collider.  Conspiracy theorist mount up!   We welcome all here, for we are all on this curious journey together!

Genesis 11:1-9King James Version (KJV)

11 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

I know, I know, what does this have to do with Bigfoot ?  Hey, Im getting to that MR. MAN!
But first I'm weaving a multiple layer account tapestry of castle like proportions... besides you might learn something and enjoy it.  One more!  Now to to (the book of Jubilees) account !

The Tower of Babel and the Confusion of Tongues (x. 18-27; cf. Gen. xi. 1-9).

18. And in the three and thirtieth jubilee, in the first year in the second week, Peleg took to himself a wife, whose name was Lômnâ the daughter of Sînâ’ar, and she bare him a son in the fourth year of this week, and he called his name Reu; 2 for he said: "Behold the children of men have become evil 3 through the wicked purpose of building for themselves a city and a tower in the land of Shinar." 19. For they departed from the land of Ararat eastward to Shinar; for in his days they built the city and the tower, saying, "Go to, let us ascend thereby into heaven." 4 20. And they began to build, and in the fourth week they made brick with fire, and the bricks served them for stone, and the clay 5 with which they cemented them together was asphalt which cometh out of the sea, and out of the fountains of water in the land of Shinar. 21. And they built it: forty and three years were they building it; its

breadth was 203 bricks, and the height (of a brick) was the third of one; its height amounted to 5433 cubits and 2 palms, and (the extent of one wall was) thirteen stades (and of the other thirty stades). 22. And the Lord our God said unto us: "Behold, they are one people, and (this) they begin to do, and now nothing will be withholden from them. Go to, let us go down and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech, 1 and they may be dispersed into cities and nations, and one purpose will no longer abide with them till the day of judgment." 23. And the Lord descended, and we descended with Him to see the city and the tower which the children of men had built. 24. And He confounded their language, and they no longer understood one another's speech, and they ceased then to build the city and the tower. 25. For this reason the whole land of Shinar is called Babel, because the Lord did there confound all the language of the children of men, and from thence they were dispersed 2 into their cities, each according to his language and his nation. 3 26. And the Lord sent a mighty wind 4 against the tower and overthrew it upon the earth, and behold it was between Asshur and Babylon in the land of Shinar, and they called its name

Ok, ok, maybe you fantastic Fortean freaks caught it... you kind of have to back track a little bit... ok, a lot of bit.

Back to the book of yasher. verse 35.

"Became like apes" this is very interesting to me.  We have in the epic of Gilgamesh an account of the gods creating a hairy wild man to basically keep Gil from continuing his rampage of the inhabitants of the area or earth at that time.  Then we have a similar story in the tower of Babel with Nimrod who conquered the world, spread some wickedness around, and decided to conquer the heavenly realm of God.  God sees what is going on, gets miffed and exacts some judgment.  One of which is turning a portion of the three groups into ape like beings.  Nimrod's crew gets scattered and destroyed, the project is then seemingly abandoned.

So the gods make a hairy beast in the epic of Gilgamesh and God turns a group of men into ape like beings in the book of Yasher.  Chew it!!!!  Chew it!!! ...... this  train ride isn't over yet!  C'mon people!

Oh and by the way, if your wondering about those elephant men also mentioned, I've got a whole lot to say about them, but right now we is talking abouts the bigfoots and not the weird Michael Jackson/ David Lynch obsession of elephant men .

 AAAAALLLLLLLLLLL ABOARD!  Next stop India?!!
Grrrrrrrrraaauuuul!  Chooga chooga Bali, warm me up some of yo naany.

Now I'm not sure if you noticed it or not, but in the book of Yasher it describes a section of the tower.  That section being the middle of the tower, eluding to it being left on the ground or flying around in the heavens somewhere.

                                   ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG!
Warning!  This is a public service announcement:  what follows may cause traditional bigfoot purists,  and like minded cryptozoologists, to have aggressive cranial evacuations, hearts will quiver,  fists will  shake in violent cubical lament and anger!  And all delicate constitutions may waver!!!!  That is to say, your butts might began to dribble a little bit.  Sorry, not sorry.

Wait just a minute Rev, you mean to tell me UFOs, Bigfoots and the like,  frolicking together in forests and the outer realms of heavenly spaces, ain't no new concept?

Thats right reader believers, its a concept that has been around a lot longer than the west has "Monkey'd around" with the concept of Bigfoot, Bigfeets, Bigfeet?..... singular plurals?Related image

hay, that things topsy looks like it fits on that other things bottomsy !

In the vedas (Hindu holy books) we hear tell a tail of flying machines, crazy god wars in the  heavens, weird romances and strange beasts created with divine purpose and or slavery, slash companionship.
awwwwwwwww hims soooooo cute.  let us continue!

After combing through Hrs of Hindu epics and poems, I gave up attempting to remember the exact location of this monkey man creation and just copied and pasted this sludge from some other king of nerds blog who copied it from WIKI WIKI,  now I sound like some kind of Monkey D.j.

Vanaras are created by Brahma to help Rama in battle against Ravana. They are powerful and have many godly traits. Taking Brahma's orders, the gods began to parent sons in the semblance of monkeys (Ramayana 1.17.8). The Vanaras took birth in bears and monkeys attaining the shape and valor of the gods and goddesses who created them (Ramayana 1.17.17-18).[18] After Vanaras were created they began to organize into armies and spread across the forests, although some, including Vali, Sugriva, and Hanuman, stayed near Mount Riskshavat.

According to the Ramayana, the Vanaras lived primarily in the region of Kishkindha (identified with parts of present-day Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra). Rama first met them in Dandaka Forest, during his search for Sita. An army of Vanaras helped Rama in his search for Sita, and also in battle against Ravana, Sita's abductor. Nala and Nila built a bridge over the ocean so that Rama and the army could cross to Lanka. As described in the epic, the characteristics of the Vanara include being amusing, childish, mildly irritating, badgering, hyperactive, adventurous, bluntly honest, loyal, courageous, and kind.

Other texts

The Vanaras also appear in other texts, including Mahabharata. The epic Mahabharata describes them as forest-dwelling, and mentions them being encountered by Sahadeva, a Pandava general who led a military campaign to south India.

Vanaras : hairy, fury, shapeshifting monkey men created by the gods.  They love kicking it in forests, swinging wooden clubs, carrying and throwing massive rocks, and going to war for their creators .

By the way if you think greek mythology has the most characters to remember and insane over lapping story lines, spend a few HRs in one the 20,000+ versus of the Hindu epics and poems.

bring some milk so you can dip you noggin in it after it turns to cookies .

to be continued ..............  That is to say, if you have anything to add, or if you come across like minded stories or legends, or myths....please send them to my email and I will add them here.
